►► NIGERIA: FirstNation Airways set to lease an A319 from the ILFC.

first nation logo[UPDATE 28 DECEMBER] According to Skyliner.de, grounded Nigerian carrier, FirstNation Airways (FRN), is to lease an Airbus A319-100 (MSN: 647 | 5N-FND) from the International Leasing Finance Corporation (ILFC).

●● SOUTH AFRICA: All set for the 44th AFRAA General Assembly to be held from 18-20 November in Johannesburg.

[UPDATE 23 NOVEMBER 2012] The African Airlines Association (AFRAA) is set to convene its 44th Annual General Assembly slated for the 18th – 20th November 2012, and to be held at the Sandton Convention Centre in South Africa's commercial hub, Johannesburg. 

►► OMAN: Ethiopian increases Muscat frequency from late November on.

Ethiopian Airlines will from 27 November 2012 increase its Addis Ababa – Muscat, Oman flights from the current 3/4x weekly, to daily. The flight is operated with a Boeing 737-700.

►► CAMEROON: Arik Air to start Lagos - Douala from late August.

Arik Air[UPDATE 23 NOVEMBER 2012] Nigerian private carrier Arik Air (W3), is to launch a 3x weekly (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday) service between Lagos, Nigeria and Douala, Cameroon using a Boeing 737-700, starting Thursday 30 August 2012.

►► THAILAND: Ethiopian Airlines boosts Bangkok, Hong Kong flights from late November.

[UPDATE 22 NOVEMBER 2012] Ethiopian Airlines (ET), will from 24 November 2012, increase its Addis Ababa – Bangkok – Hong Kong 767 operated service from 4x weekly, to daily. As a result, Bangkok will see an increase from 7x to 10x weekly flights.

■■ MOZAMBIQUE: Search for missing South African pilots to end Friday.

Mayday[UPDATED 20 NOVEMBER 2012] The search for two South African pilots who went missing on 27 October as they flew home to South Africa is to be called off Friday. 

Bryan Simms, 60, and his son Robert, 22, from Midrand, Johannesburg, were flying back to Lanseria airport, Johannesburg in a Beechcraft Baron 58 (MSN TH-737 | ZS-JPG). They had departed Lilongwe, Malawi en route to Lanseria when contact was lost around 45 minutes from Beira airport, Mozambique.

►►► NAMIBIA: Flight disruptions as Pilot strike forces Air Namibia to issue revised timetable.

Air Namibia[SEE NEW POST FOR ADDED UPDATES] Air Namibia's (SW) pilot union, the Namibian Airline Pilots Association (NAPA), has proceeded with industrial action after a breakdown in talks with the carrier's management. The strike went into effect this morning, Friday 16 November 2012 at 00h01.

■■ SOUTH AFRICA: 7 million litres of fuel contaminated in pipeline to Joburg OR Tambo International.

UPDATE [16 NOVEMBER 2012 19h00L]The Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) this morning issued a statement to the effect that fuel in its AVTUR pipeline to Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport had been contaminated with "off-specification Jet A-1" and had therefore been rendered unfit for use by airlines.

[UPDATED 8 NOVEMBER 2012] Ethiopian Airlines (ET) is to further delay its planned deployment of the Boeing 787 on its daily Ababa – Johannesburg, South Africa route until 30 November 2012. The route will remain at a Boeing 737-800.

►► ZAMBIA: Ethiopian to operate 787/777 service to Harare & Lusaka for duration of October.

[UPDATE 7 NOVEMBER 2012] Despite having previously announced that its originally intended Boeing 787  Dreamliner service from Addis Ababa to Harare, Zimbabwe and Lusaka, Zambia was cancelled, Ethiopian Airlines (ET) has loaded a 6x weekly Dreamliner service onto the route, with a Boeing 777-200LR once weekly starting 30 September 2012 and valid until 27 October 2012.

►► INDIA: Ethiopian goes daily 787 to Mumbai from November.

[UPDATE 7 NOVEMBER 2012] With its third Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner (MSN: 34747 | ET-AOS) now just recently delivered, Ethiopian Airlines (ET) has announced the launch of daily 787 flight from Addis Ababa to Mumbai, India, effective 25 November 2012.

►► EGYPT: EasyJet launches Stansted - Marrakech, Sharm el Sheikh from 2013.

►► CHAD: Presidential Jet involved in accident in Kalait; no casualties.

Chad flagReports out of Chad claim that the Chadian Presidential Jet, carrying strongman Idriss Deby, was yesterday involved in an accident whilst landing in Bir Kalait, 750 kilometres North East of the capital, Ndjamena. No casualties were reported, though the aircraft is said to have sustained damage.

SA Express[UPDATE 12 OCTOBER] Following on from its launch of direct Durban - Lusaka flights in July, South African regional carrier, SA Express (XZ), today announced in the Zimbabwean press that it will start a 3x weekly direct Durban, South Africa - Harare, Zimbabwe service using a Bombardier CRJ-200, effective 3 October 2012.

►► SWEDEN: Ethiopian Airlines incorporating Cairo stop on Stockholm flights.

Ethiopian AirlinesEthiopian Airlines (ET) is currently incorporating a stopover in Cairo, Egypt on its previously direct Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - Stockholm, Sweden flights.

The route change has been in vigour since 10 August 2012 and will last until 10 September 2012, though the GDS has it until late October.

► SUDAN: Azza Air Transport AN-12 crashes near Khartoum, 15 dead.

[UPDATED 7 OCTOBER 2012] Originally slated to start on 12 June 2012, Cameroonian national carrier Camair-Co (QC) has postponed the start of its 3x weekly Douala, Cameroon - Kinshasa, DRC and Douala, Cameroon - Lagos, Nigeria flights until 23 and 25 July 2012 respectively.
