► SIERRA LEONE: Allied Air Cargo begins once weekly Ostend to Freetown via Lagos flights.

Nigeria's Allied Air Cargo (4W) have launched a new weekly Ostend to Freetown, Sierra Leone flight via Lagos Nigeria. The maiden flight was launched on May 11.

► SOUTH AFRICA: SAA Cargo leasing a B737-400F from Solinair.

SAA Cargo, the freight division of South African Airways (SA), has wet-leased a B737-400F, (MCN 1715 | S5-ABV), from Slovenia's Solinair (SOP). Regional competitor, Kenya Airways Cargo (KQ), recently upped its game through the addition of its first B737-300F, (MSN 29088 | 5Y-KQC).

► ALGERIA: Air Algérie now eyeing two Ethiopian Airlines MD11Fs for Cargo ops.

Air Algérie (AH) is planning to add two Ethiopian Airlines Cargo McDonnell Douglas MD-11Fs (possibly (MSN 48758 | ET-AML) and (MSN 48780 | ET-AND)) to its Cargo division as part of its fleet renewal and business turnaround plan.

► UNITED KINGDOM: AV Cargo Airlines plans African cargo ops from May onwards.

AV Cargo Airlines, the phoenix that has risen the ashes of Zimbabwe's bankrupt Avient Cargo Airlines (Z3) has introduced the first of three planned additional MD11 freighters (MSN 48746 | N278WA) into its fleet with flights to Africa planned in due course.

■ KENYA: Siginon Aviation's new $10million cargo facility at Nairobi JKIA on track for September opening.

Siginon Aviation says its planned USD10million new cargo facility at Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta International Airport is on track for a tentative September 2013 launch. The facility will become JKIA's sixth and will add to its current processing capacity of 200'000 tonnes of cargo annually.

► RWANDA: Turkish Airlines Cargo to start dedicated cargo ops to Kigali from mid May.

As part of previously reported plans to enhance its presence in Africa through the opening of an additional 10 stations, Turkish Airlines Cargo (TK), says it will begin once weekly dedicated cargo flights to the Rwandan capital, Kigali, effective 13 May.

► KENYA: Blue Bird Aviation set to take on two further Bombardier Q400s for cargo ops.

Kenyan cargo carrier Blue Bird Aviation (BBZ) is due to take delivery of two former Augsburg Airways (IQ) Bombardier Q400s to add to its growing fleet of 11 aircraft.

►► NIGERIA: Airstream Aviation starts cargo ops using wetleased B737-400F.

[UPDATE 13 APRIL] Abuja-based Airstream Aviation has launched scheduled cargo and ad-hoc charter operations on domestic routes using a wet leased Boeing B737-400F (MSN 24128 | S5-ABV).

► BURKINA FASO: Cargolux to start weekly Ouagadougou flights from 16 April.

Luxembourg's Cargolux (CV) Airlines International S.A. has announced that, in addition to starting Tripoli flights from 16 April, it will start weekly Wednesday  flights to Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, on 24 April. Often called the centre of the nation, Ouagadougou is the country’s largest city; its main industries are food processing and textiles.

► LIBYA: Cargolux to start Johannesburg via Tripoli flights from late April.

Luxembourg's Cargolux (CV) today announced that it will introduce a new air cargo service to Tripoli, Libya’s capital and largest city. The first flight is scheduled for 16 April, followed by weekly services that will operate every Tuesday on the route Luxembourg – Tripoli – Johannesburg.

► TURKEY: Turkish Cargo outlines its planned Africa Summer 2013 network.

According to the airline’s latest schedule listing, Turkish Airlines Cargo’s Summer 2013 planned operation as follow. The airline did not specify operational aircraft in its schedule listing. 

► WESTERN SAHARA: Royal Air Maroc launches direct Gran Canaria - Laayoune flights; Cargo ops to come in June.

Royal Air Maroc (AT) is planning to boost both cargo and passenger services out of Laâyoune, the capital of Western Sahara (also known as the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic) with the recent launch of flights to Gran Canaria  and Royal Air Maroc Cargo flights from Dakar to Casablanca via Laâyoune set to begin in June 2013.

■ ZAMBIA: NAC2000 selects Kale Logistics' Galaxy Ground Handling Management System.

Zambian ground handling services company, NAC2000 (formerly known as National Air Charters), has opted for Kale Logistics’ "Galaxy" Airport Ground Handling Management system for the automation of its activities at Lusaka Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, Zambia. With this selection, NAC2000 is now poised to move from its manual operations to a globally connected web-based cargo management system which will help it better serve its customers & communicate with all its external stakeholders.

► SOUTH AFRICA: Virgin Atlantic Cargo reaping the rewards of deploying the A340-600 on its Johannesburg route.

The introduction of Airbus A340-600 flights between London and Johannesburg during South Africa's peak season has provided a welcome boost in capacity for Virgin Atlantic Cargo (VS) on one of its most in-demand routes.

► TURKEY: Turkish Cargo looking to add 10 additional stations in Africa before 2014.

►► KENYA: First of four Kenya Airways Boeing 737-300s set for Cargo conversion.

[UPDATE 18 MARCH] Kenya Airways (KQ) has announced plans to convert four of its six Boeing 737-300s into regional cargo freighters in a move that will see the carriers' cargo division, Kenya Airways Cargo, increasing its presence in Eastern, Central, and Southern Africa.

■ EGYPT: Finalized plan for new $20billion Cairo "airport city" development to be presented in April.

Planning for the construction of a new USD20billion "airport city" near Cairo International Airport is to be concluded come April reports from Egypt’s Ministry of Civil Aviation state. The new development will be the first of three similar projects to be built in the capital, Alexandria (Burg Al Arab airport) and at Port Said airport.

► ZAMBIA: (Pic) Singapore Airlines Cargo 747F touches down in Lusaka.

Singapore Airlines Cargo (SV), the cargo wing of Singapore Airlines, on Monday 11 March 2013, operated a one-off Boeing 747-400F flight into the Zambian capital, Lusaka.

■ TANZANIA: Worldwide Flight Services, Wings Flight Services win tender to operate new USD6million cargo terminal at JNIA.

Global ground service providers, Worldwide Flight Services (WFS), has entered into a long-term partnership with Wings Flight Services in Tanzania to operate a new cargo terminal at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam.

► NIGERIA: Arik Air signs ACMI deal with Emirate Touch Aviation for two B737-300s.

Nigeria's Arik Air (WB) has signed an ACMI lease agreement with Kano-based Emirate Touch Aviation Services Limited for the use of two of Arik's stored Boeing 737-300s for cargo ops.
