► FRANCE: Tunisia's Syphax Airlines boosts Paris CDG to daily from late October.

Tunisian carrier, Syphax Airlines (FS), will from 28 October 2012, launch daily A319-operated flights between the Tunisian capital, Tunis, and Paris CDG, four months after the route was originally meant to have gone daily.

► BURUNDI: China Southern to operate military charters to Monrovia, Bujumbura, Juba, Nairobi in November.

China SouthernGuangzhou based carrier, China Southern (CZ), will operate three military charter flights to Monrovia (Liberia), Bujumbura (Burundi), Juba (South Sudan) and Nairobi (Kenya) this November on behalf of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, under the auspices of the United Nations.

► BURKINA FASO: Ariella Airlines launches with aid of Spain's IMD Airways.

Ariella AirlinesBurkina Faso now has a second operator in addition to Air Burkina (2J); Ariella Airlines has now started operations with its first route being Ouagadougou - Bamako (Mali) - Pointe Noire (Congo Brazzaville) and Pointe Noire (Congo Brazzaville) - Cotonou (Benin) - Bamako (Mali) - Ouagadougo.

● NIGER: Remembering UTA Flight UT772, twenty three years ago today.

Today marks the 23rd anniversary of the bombing of UTA Flight 772 on 19 September 1989, a somewhat forgotten incident that bears strong similarity with a larger, more widely publicized bombing that occurred a year earlier; that of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland in December 1988.

► SOUTH AFRICA: Air France extends Cape Town route into May 2013.

Air France logoAir France (AF) is to extend its seasonal Paris CDG (France) – Cape Town (South Africa) operation for the Northern Winter 2012/13 season.

The thrice weekly Boeing 777-200 operated route will remain in effect from 28 October 2012 until 12 May 2013, instead of the previously announced date of 30 March 2013.

► FRANCE: Egyptair increases capacity to Paris from December 2012.

Egyptair
Egyptian airline, Egyptair (MS), will from 1 December 2012, replace its current daily Airbus A330-300 operated service to Paris Charles de Gaulle, France with a larger Boeing 777-300ER. 

This comes after the carrier previously announced that from 28 October 2012 it would increase frequencies on the route from daily to 11x weekly.

► CONGO (BRAZZAVILLE): EC Air Congo to start Douala, Cotonou, Ollombo following last week's Paris service launch.

Equatorial Airlines CongoAs previously reported by The African Aviation Tribune, Congolese private carrier Equatorial Congo Airlines, better known as EC Air Congo (LC), last week Friday 24 August, inaugurated its first international route: a 3x weekly Brazzaville, Congo - Paris (Charles de Gaulle) service using a Boeing 757-200 leased from Switzerland's PrivatAir.

► MADAGASCAR: Air Madagascar reduces Paris flights from October.

With effect from Winter 2012 (i.e 28 October 2012), Air Madagascar is to reduce its current Airbus A340 operated 4x weekly flights from Antananarivo, Madagascar to Paris CDG, France to 3x weekly. Its other French route, Antananarivo, Madagascar to Marseille, France, is to remain a once (1x) weekly service.

► MALI: Air France announces changes to Bamako service.

Air France logoAir France has announced changes to its daily Paris - Bamako, Mali service effective from 1 August 2012 until 27 October 2012 as the Malian capital Bamako prepares to open its newly refurbished Sénou International Airport.

During this time, the route Bamako - Paris CDG outbound leg will operate with a technical stop in Casablanca, Morocco.

Sénou International Airport has been undergoing various improvements and renovations over the last few years, with the present set of upgrades costing USD$190million and financed by the US government, the World Bank and other donors, expected to be ready for use by late September.

► TUNISIA: Syphax Airlines announces Summer schedule changes; outlines new routes.

Newly founded Tunisian carrier Syphax Airlines (FS) has announced changes to its Summer timetable effective 5 July 2012.

Founded in 2011 and based in the coastal city of Sfax by businessman Mohamed Frikha, Syphax Airlines is a scheduled airline serving destinations in the Mediterranean with plans to increase its presence in both the Magreb region of Africa and Europe in the near future, amongst which will see Nice and Lyon in France being connected with Sfax, Tunisia a whilst Casablanca - Tunisia service is also in the pipeline.

► MALI: Air Mali signs code-share with Air France.

Air MaliFollowing on from last week's code share agreement signing with Air Burkina of Burkina Faso, Air France announced today, the signing of another code share agreement, this time with Mali's Air Mali (I5). The agreement will see Air France selling Air Mali a quota of seats on its daily flights from Paris to the Malian capital, Bamako.

► FRANCE: Air France announces various Africa changes for Winter 2012.
