According to Nigerien Minister of Transport, Mr Ibrahim Yacouba, once the new international terminal is completed, Diori Hamani International Airport's current terminal will be used exclusivity for domestic flights. While no precise details have yet been divulged, the project is estimated to cost "several billion" CFA Francs and will involve a 20'000sqm passenger terminal and a 15'000sqm cargo facility.

Airfields at Zinder and Agadez are also in line to be modernized as the country moves to attract more foreign direct investors in its budding mining and petroleum industries.

Turning to Niger Airways and its status, Mr Yacouba neither confirmed, nor denied, the purported deal with Turkish Airlines adding that it has already received a budget allocation as well as strong interest from the local Nigerien business community.
