■ GHANA: Mahama axes entire board of Ghana Airports Co. Ltd; new appointees due shortly.

The entire board of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has been dissolved by the Ghanaian president, John Mahama, just one week after the Minister of Transport, Dzifa Attivor, announced the dismissal of the firm's Managing Director,  Doreen Owusu-Fianko.

While no exact reasons for the mass firing has been given, the Ghanaian press has speculated that Ms Owusu Fianko was removed for "a number of reasons including misconduct".

She was billed to hand over the directorship of the GACL to her deputy on Friday September 13, 2013 when President Mahama preempted that move by directing Ms Attivor to dissolve the board outright.

As it stands, a list of names for the reconstituting of the Board and Management of the Company is currently before the Ghanaian Council of State and will be announced shortly.
