► TANZANIA: Air Tanzania's boss fired; 4 others suspended.

Air TanzaniaAfter much pomp and fervour over the airline's relaunch last month, the Tanzanian Government has fired Air Tanzania's (TC) acting Managing Director, Paul Chizi, and suspended four senior officials due to "irregularities in their appointments apropos the Tanzanian Public Service Act of 2002, amongst other accusations of breach of public service laws and regulations."

Chizi was MD of Air Tanzania for almost a year, having been appointed in August of last year.

Fellow board members who have been suspended include the acting Director of Engineering, John Ringo, Air Tanzania's Legal Officer, Amini Mziray, acting Finance Director, Justus Bashara and acting Commercial Director, Josephat Kagirwa.

""However, the appointment of Mr Chizi was not done in accordance with legislation, procedures and regulations governing public service. Thus, through legislation Number 8 of 2002 and Public Service Regulations of 2003, Section 17 (4), the Minister for Transport, Dr Harrison Mwakyembe, has revoked the appointment effective June 5, 2012," reads part of the statement by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transport, Eng. Omari Chambo."
