► LIBYA: Afriqiyah launches Misrata - Cairo as Libyan Airlines upgrades Istanbul, Casablanca to the A330.

AfriqiyahAfriqiyah (8U) has launched twice-weekly flights between between Misrata, Libya's third largest city 187 km east of Tripoli, and Cairo. Flights operate on-board an Airbus A320. Despite the troubles in Egypt, the Libyan Herald says flights to Egypt are "largely fully booked".

■ EGYPT: Finalized plan for new $20billion Cairo "airport city" development to be presented in April.

Egypt flagPlanning for the construction of a new USD20billion "airport city" near Cairo International Airport is to be concluded come April reports from Egypt’s Ministry of Civil Aviation state. The new development will be the first of three similar projects to be built in the capital, Alexandria (Burg Al Arab airport) and at Port Said airport.

► AZERBAIJAN: Azerbaijani Airlines to operate two one-off charters to Egypt, Morocco for Novruz holiday.

Azerbaijan AirlinesAzerbaijan Airlines (J2) has announced it will operate two one-off charter flights from Baku to Egypt and Morocco respectively, in connection with the Novruz holiday, a traditional Iranian holiday which celebrates the New Year, and the coming of Spring.

►► EGYPT: EasyJet launches Stansted - Marrakech, Sharm el Sheikh from 2013.

► EGYPT: Egyptair cancels Sharm el Sheikh - London Heathrow in favour of added Cairo - London flights.

Following on from our original July update, Egyptian carrier Egyptair (MS) has announced a revision to its Cairo - London Heathrow and Sharm el Sheikh - London Heathrow routes, the latter of which will be cancelled and rerouted ex-Cairo from 28 October 2012.

The once (1x) weekly Luxor - London Heathrow flight remains unchanged.
