The consulting firm has been responsible for design reviews and approvals, project management and supervising construction of the new USD33million terminal capable of handling 4 million passengers annually. The new terminal was constructed with an environmentally sustainable design that maximizes solar energy use.
Since establishing a Mauritian branch in 2010, Louis Berger has expanded its presence in the Indian Ocean and adjacent regions,” said Diego Rincón, vice president and director of Louis Berger’s Global Aviation business segment. “This project presents an opportunity to contribute to tourism growth and development by leveraging modern, state-of-the-art facilities and mechanisms to enhance travel to and from the island.
Since the soft opening of the terminal earlier last month with the arrival of an Emirates A380, additional trial flights and training processes have been ongoing. With construction of the new terminal having begun in March 2010, preparations for its full use are on course for this summer.

Thus far, two out of the five new aircraft MRO hangers have been inaugurate, whose other aspects have included the construction of the terminal, improvement of various aspects of airfield infrastructure most notably: a new runway lighting system being installed, the extension of runway 14/32 by 150 meters to enhance operational safety, and the enlargement of runway turning circles.

The official opening of the airport is set for later this month.
