► SOUTH AFRICA: Air Mauritius to resume Durban flights "soon".

Air MauritiusAir Mauritius (MK) is looking to return to Durban, South Africa after having dropped the route in late October 2012 citing poor loads. In addition, the carrier will also offer "convenient connections to the Far East" as it seeks to exploit the growing Africa - Asia market.

South African publication eTourism News reports that cost-effective rates are to be introduced, in addition to incentive agreements, committed seats and Travel Smart.

Air Mauritius did operate a brief 2 week service to Durban for the duration of the Christmas 2012 holidays.

MK had originally ditched Durban in preference of routing its fligts via Johannesburg, deemed "the economic powerhouse of Gauteng".

Durban's prominence as a financial and industrial centre is increasing with negotiations at a ministerial level said to be ongoing with Air Seychelles(HM) over the possible establishment of direct Mahé - Durban flights.
