■ UGANDA: Air Uganda renews its IOSA certificate; launches new Premium Economy class product.

Celestair's Air Uganda (U7) has passed its IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) and has had its certificate renewed until 30 September 2013 according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) website. The certificate was awarded to Meridiana Africa Airlines Uganda Ltd t/a Air Uganda.

The IOSA program is an internationally recognized and accepted evaluation system designed to assess the operational management and control systems of an airline, and is also a benchmark for global safety management in airlines.

Additionally, the carrier has also announced plans for a new Premium Economy Class product on-board its Bombardier CRJ200 jets. According to Business Travel Now, passengers ticketed in this class are entitled to:
  • Lounge access (at all airports exclusive of Juba international Airport in South Sudan); 
  • Baggage allowance of up to 35kgs; 
  • Unlimited reservation changes at no charge, 
  • Special check-in at Entebbe Airport, 
  • An extra seat for personal space and comfort onboard, 
  • Special meals and drinks onboard and bonus Celestars miles.

From its hub in Entebbe, Air Uganda flies to Dar es Salaam, Nairobi, Mombasa, Bujumbura, Kigali and Juba in South Sudan.
