■ UGANDA: Cornwell Muleya appointed CEO of Air Uganda.

Meridiana Africa Airlines (Uganda) Limited, also known as Air Uganda(U7), has announced the appointment of Cornwell Muleya to the position of CEO. He joins Air Uganda from Kenyan outfit ALS - Aircraft Leasing Services (K4), where he has been CEO for the last 3 years. An Engineer and Chartered Accountant by trade, Mr Muleya spent the early part of his career in audit and financial consulting with Deloitte and PriceWaterHouseCoopers.

Mr Muleya has extensive airline management experience having worked as a CEO and CFO for several airlines in Africa including Air Mauritius(MK), Air Botswana(BP), Air Tanzania (TC) and Zambezi Airlines(ZJ). He takes over from previous CEO, Kyle Haywood, who left the Ugandan airline in early October 2012 in order to take up the position of General Manager at fastjet (FN) in Tanzania.

Commenting on his arrival, Mr Muleya expressed his delight to be part of an exciting and growing airline like Air Uganda. He looks forward to working with the Air Uganda team and the people of Uganda to further develop the airline’s network in order to enhance business and tourism.

Air Uganda was founded in 2007 and operates scheduled flights from its Entebbe hub to various countries in Eastern Africa using a fleet comprising of CRJ200 aircraft and MD87s. Air Uganda is a member of the Celestair Group, which is owned by the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED).
